Hannibal Division History
Marion County's court geography has a rare legal history. The county was organized on December 23, 1826, with Palmyra as the county seat. A Court of Common Pleas was established in Hannibal in 1844. Missouri Constitution article V section 27 later transferred magistrate, probate, municipal, and common pleas jurisdiction into the circuit courts.
